The service from the staff was incredible, very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The location of the hotel was perfect, offering beautiful sunset views and a great beach for swimming. We also enjoyed the large breakfast buffet and the variety of local seafood options for lunch and dinner.
The hotel could use some improvements, such as updating the worn-out rooms and providing better equipment for the staff. It was also disappointing that the airport transfer was overpriced and not reliable.

This hotel is an absolute gem nestled within a botanical garden right on the beach. The location is simply breathtaking, with shady gardens and stunning sea views from some of the rooms. We were lucky enough to secure a promotional rate with a room that had a bunk bed, perfect for our daughter. The service provided by the staff was exceptional, with a special mention to the housekeeping team who ensured our room was spotless and the turn down service was done with enthusiasm. The basic amenities in the room were more than sufficient, and we enjoyed a delicious breakfast with freshly prepared eggs every morning.
All was great, no improvements needed.

I was amazed by the exceptional service at Protea Hotel Zanzibar Mbweni Ruins. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with a refreshing fruit platter and assisted with my luggage. The staff at the reception and restaurant were truly exemplary, providing the best service I have ever experienced. The rooms were great, with mosquito treatment and nets for a comfortable and romantic stay. Despite breakfast starting at 7:30AM, they happily accommodated my request for an early breakfast at 7AM. The hotel manager, Nico, was incredibly experienced and anticipated our needs before we even asked. This is the hotel to visit when in Zanzibar!

The hotel can be quite crowded in the evenings, which can make it difficult to find a peaceful spot on the beach.

Had a blast spending New Year’s at this wonderful spot. The included breakfast and free shuttle service to nearby attractions were great additions. We appreciated the stunning ocean view and beach access. The staff’s warm hospitality made us feel right at home.
The road leading up to the hotel could have been better maintained and the mosquitoes could be intense. Guests should be aware that there are no nearby shops or restaurants, so plan accordingly.

The hotel grounds were stunning, nestled within a picturesque botanical garden right on the beach. The ruins nearby were a free and fascinating attraction to explore. The restaurant served good food and the staff were friendly and attentive. The free shuttle to Stonetown made it easy to try other restaurants and explore the city. The beach itself was beautiful and my family enjoyed swimming in the ocean. Our room was comfortable and we had a lovely private balcony with a perfect view of the beach. It was incredibly quiet at night, allowing for a peaceful night's sleep.
Nothing that I didn't like.
